What are the Advantages of Using an Intraoral Camera?
Intraoral cameras are small digital cameras that fit comfortably into your mouth and give us a better understanding of your current oral health. We’re able to take high-resolution images of your mouth, including your tongue, your throat, your teeth, and your gums.
Even, better, not only are we able to see inside your mouth, we can broadcast that information onto a computer screen, giving you the rare opportunity to see what we see during a dental exam. So often it seems that a dental appointment is a doctor-led event, with us peering into your mouth, poking and prodding with our tools as we announce numbers to our dental assistant. With the introduction of an intraoral camera, you can now take charge of your oral health and better understand what we’re doing when we examine you.
Intraoral cameras are quite small, usually only slightly larger than an ink pen. It has an equally small lens on the tip, which we insert into your mouth. That makes an examination with the camera quite comfortable, without you straining your mouth to fit the device inside. Despite having such a small lens, however, the images we can capture are of the highest quality, creating crisp, vivid pictures that we can show you. We’re also able to save these images to your digital file, making recalling them a breeze year after to year to track changes to your oral health.
When we use an intraoral camera, we’re able to tell right away what’s going on inside your mouth. We’re able to quickly diagnose any conditions that we find during this portion of the exam quickly and accurately. Any pictures that we take can be enlarged and enhanced. Another great thing about the camera is that we’re able to explain better to you exactly why we advise a particular procedure or device.
