CEREC® Same-Day Crowns

smiling patients who've had CEREC same-day crowns at OHIOSmiles The teeth are the strongest substance in the human body. In fact, they are even stronger than bone. Despite their strength, however, they are still susceptible to physical damage and decay. While some damage is not significant, and only impacts the appearance of your teeth, other damage can compromise both their strength and their health. In many cases, damaged teeth can be restored with crowns. Typically, crowns take two appointments to place. This not only requires more of your time, having to deal with a temporary crown can put the affected teeth at risk for complications. At OHIOSmiles, we can provide you with crowns in a single visit with CEREC same-day crowns to restore your smile.

Treatment for Damaged Teeth

Most minor damage does not affect the health of your mouth. Any aesthetic issues caused by this type of damage can easily be corrected with cosmetic treatment. However, when the damage is more significant, the structure of the affected teeth becomes compromised, as does your oral health. Not only are your teeth subject to further damage, but they are also at risk for developing infections. Crowns are a treatment designed to restore damaged teeth, giving them back their strength and protecting them from further damage and infection. Crowns can be made from different types of materials, with ceramic being the most popular. Ceramic is very strong, able to stand up to normal wear and tear, and it perfectly matches the color and light reflection properties of your natural teeth.

The Typical Crown Procedure

Typically, getting a crown requires two separate visits. At the first appointment, the tooth is prepared. Preparation of the tooth involves the removal of a portion of its enamel, reducing its size. This creates the space necessary for the crown to fit properly over the tooth, providing effective protection while also sitting in perfectly with the rest of your teeth. After the tooth is prepared, an impression is taken and sent to a dental lab. The lab uses the impressions to design and create the crown. It can take up to two weeks for the crown to be made and sent back, leaving you with a temporary crown while you wait. At the second appointment, the crown is placed. If alterations are needed, it could take even longer for you to get your final restoration.

The CEREC Difference

With CEREC technology, we can provide you with your crowns in a single appointment, eliminating the need for a temporary crown and additional visits. Using a handheld scanner, we take a digital impression of your mouth after the damaged tooth has been prepared. This impression is then displayed as a 3D image on our computer monitor. Specialized software allows us to design a custom crown to the exact specifications of your mouth. Once designed, the information is sent to an in-house milling unit. A block of ceramic is placed into the machine. After the machine cuts out the crown, we finish it and are then able to check it for fit and bite. If any adjustments are needed, we can make them on site. You leave that same appointment with your permanent new crown in place.

With CEREC same-day crowns, you can receive your permanent restorations in a single visit, completely avoiding the need for a temporary crown and a second appointment. If you have suffered tooth damage and are in need of a crown, OHIOSmiles at (740) 781-0540 today.
