Foods That Keep Your Breath Fresher at WorkNo one wants bad breath and most people try to take steps to eliminate it. Bad breath has many causes, but one of the single things you can do to control bad breath is to increase your saliva production.

Bad breath, or halitosis, is by many different things. Foods that you eat are an obvious one. Just about everyone knows that garlic and onions can cause bad breath. Smoking tobacco products can also cause bad breath.

One other very important thing that can cause bad breath, among a host of other problems, is dehydration or lack of saliva production. Many people do not realize the importance of saliva. Saliva acts as a natural cleanser for your teeth. It is what keeps your teeth cleaner in between brushings. That makes your job easier because you just have to drink more water. That is tip number one for how to avoid bad breath. Drink more water.

What Else Can I Do?
When you eat, the food particles left are dietary acids to your mouth. You have to neutralize these acids to prevent or control bad breath. Two foods that can neutralize the acids are cheese and unsweetened yogurt. Yes, that was unsweetened so do not expect results from yogurt with fruit in it or anything sweet. You will be compounding the problem rather than solving it.

The next step you can take to combat bad breath is to snack on crunchy foods. Crunchy foods act as natural toothbrushes. They scrape against your teeth and help remove food particles. Good crunchy foods are apples, carrots, and celery. Aside from wiping away food particles, they are good for you! An apple a day keeps the doctor away and it keeps away bad breath too.

Snacks that make your saliva production increase are good. You may have noticed that if your mouth is dry and you eat certain things your saliva comes rolling back. These are the snacks you are looking for. What you want is gum or candy that is sugar-free and preferably contains Xylitol.

Gum stimulates your saliva production, like crunchy fruits and vegetables it can help rid your mouth of food particles, and third, it is antibacterial so it can help kill the bacteria that is causing your bad breath.
